Overview

This session will give an overview of the structure of the education systems in the USA, Canada and the Caribbean with a focus on entry to tertiary studies, higher education, accreditation as well as recent developments and changes. It includes practical guidelines on interpretation and distribution of grades used in the USA and Canada and provides explanation of educational documentation from these countries.


Target Audience

This course is recommended for university and college staff involved with entry to undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The course will also be useful to people from professional bodies, nationality & immigration solicitors, recruiters, work permit and visa agencies, careers / guidance / refugee and asylum seekers advisers.

Objectives

The key objectives of the training are to:

  • Achieve an understanding of the structure of the education systems in the USA, Canada and the Caribbean
  • Understand grading systems used and how these compare to the UK standards
  • Develop the ability to identify and classify qualifications within the extensive range of awards available within each sector of these education systems
